Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod - Communities of Wales

Background

The Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod (LIME) has a proud 76-year history of bringing global communities together through music, dance and creativity to promote peace and understanding.  The Eisteddfod is acknowledged as one of the foremost world festivals and has even been nominated for the Nobel Prize for Peace.  Over 75 years it has attracted over 400,000 competitors bringing over 140 cultures to the Dee Valley. Cultural icons including Dylan Thomas, Dame Shirley Bassey and Luciano Pavarotti.

LIME have commissioned us as their Community Engagement Lead Producer to work on a 15 month collaborative project (running until July 2025) and funded by the Arts Council Wales National Lottery ‘Connect and Flourish’ programme. The project reflects Llangollen Eisteddfod’s rich heritage extending back to the founders’ unique innovation in 1947, and is aligned with the organisation’s objective of using the Arts to bring different peoples, cultures and communities together in a spirit of peace and friendship.

‘Communities of Wales’ has been created to explore the multicultural and multilingual nature of modern Wales, and to unlock these communities’ creative potential. Working with key professional partners, arts practitioners and 10 community groups across Wales, the project will use storytelling to bring people together, using music, dance, poetry and literature intertwined to create an empowering and enriching expression of cultural heritage.

Our role is to identify and support ethnic and linguistic communities throughout Wales in order to develop 3 community showcase projects leading up to the Llangollen Eisteddfod in 2024, and a further 7 projects leading up to the event in 2025. The aim is for LIME to not only showcase the best international range of creative diversity from around the world but to do the same for the wide range of creatively diverse communities based across Wales.

If you are interested in taking part in 2025 please get in touch with us.

Details of the communities participating in 2024 will be announced by LIME soon.
